SHANNON STEWART recently embarked on her own choreographic exploration to bring her worlds of movement arts, community building, and social justice closer together. Beginning with a personal excavation of family and memory in 'A Better Container', she is honored to have been awarded the Open Flight Studio “Flight Deck” and to have an incredible collection of artists to examine how memories shape our identities while they simultaneously trick, leak, and disappear from us.
'things they thought they wanted' created by MARISA HAGA explores the process of letting go of the dreams, hopes and aspirations that are sifted out as our life interrupts and unforeseen circumstances alter the course of our perceived path. By looking at the patterns we create with movement and then interfering with the obvious follow through of that movement, this piece explores the attachments we create to the “outcome” and how we let go of those bonds.
KRISTIN HAPKE’s (tin dance) first installment of 'enter here-' is a series of evocative, spontaneous solos performed by Kristin Hapke and Lila Hurwitz. Inspired to explore the possibilities of only one choreographic structure, enter here departs from the same improvisational score but manifests into three distinct overlapping solos. The score employs functional tasks and structures which challenge the performers to strategize, shape and maneuver through a complicated sequence of events. This performance is supported with live music by Carl Farrow.
